The NYBL Basketball league is composed of 4 divisions.  

1. 5th/6th Grade Girls

2. 5th/6th Grade Boys

3. 7th/8th Grade Girls

4. 7th/8th Grade Boys

We are a recreational league in the Town of Needham.  Our goal is for every child to develop their skills as a basketball player whether they are a beginner or a more seasoned player.  Most importantly, we want everyone to have a positive experience and have fun!

Every registered player is assigned to a team of 10 players or less.  Teams are made after Evaluation Days (2025 dates have not been set yet).  Our goal in making teams is to make them as equitable as possible.  All coaches are parents who have volunteered their time.  Each player will be given a team shirt at the beginning of the season.  They will also be given a basketball to use during the season.  They will get to take the basketball home once the season is over.  

Each team will have a game or practice at a minimum of 2x per week.  Practices/games during the week are between 6:00pm and 9:00pm.  Practices/games on Saturday are between 8:00am and 4:00pm. Practices/games on Sunday are between 12:15pm and 9:00pm. We primarily use the St. Joseph School gyms and Pollard but often times we have to branch out to other town gyms as well.  

At the end of the season, we have a double elimination tournament that begins right after February break.  It is a ton of fun for all the teams!

We end our season with an End of the Year Celebration and Recognition Games for each division.  Trophies and certificates are handed out along with a parting gift (a sweatshirt/sweatpants/pajamas) for each player.

Description of our developmental program for 1st-4th graders:

Skills and drills with high school coaches and volunteer parent coaches for the first 30-40 minutes.  The remainder of the time will be scrimmages.  Teams will be changed every session.  When the players check in before each session they will be given a name tag with their name and their group number for the week.  We are very focused on developing skills correctly(ball handling, dribbling, passing, shooting, defensive position).  Our goal is for the players to build upon skills they learned the previous week. The focus on repetition, in our opinion, is the best way for skill development.  Players are required to bring a ball and a water bottle to each session.  Pinnies will be handed out the first session.  

SUNDAYS AT POLLARD:

Clinics will begin at 1pm and end by 6pm.  Schedule for 25/26 Season has not been set yet.
